We enjoy spreading vendor love so much that we decided to introduce a new blog series called Vendor Spotlight! Our first segment of Vendor Spotlight features one highly recommended and talented vendor, Marti Heard Designs. We put together a few questions to ask Marti about her business and valuable advice to brides on their floral decisions for the big day!
1. Tell us about Marti Heard Designs. How did the idea for this company come about?
Originally I started out my career path out as a probation officer. I love seeing people’s reaction when they first hear that. I retired my badge after having my sweet little girl Charlotte to be at home with her. First off, being a stay at home mom is hard work. I always found excitement in having parties for any reason. I love to entertain and make things look pretty. So a year after staying at home I found myself needing a creative outlet. I thought this would be a great thing to fill in time. Well a side job, quickly became a full time gig. It is amazing to stop and think of where Marti Heard Designs is now. We will be celebrating 9 years of business this month actually!
2. What types of services/packages do you offer clients?
Our first love is making pretty flowers. But over the past years clients have asked for more guidance in regards to further design options. If someone just wants flowers, we do that! If a client wants more full design and/or planning, we do that too! My assistant Kay has made all of this possible. She is able to handle all logistics of planning while I make it pretty. It has allowed us to provide more full service and attention to creating beautiful events.
3. What sets Marti Heard Designs apart from other type of floral design companies?
Cincinnati has so many great vendors. I never think that we are better than anyone else. We just like to make beautiful events and create friends in the process. The most consistent feedback/compliment we receive from clients is how easy and fun we are to work with. That means the world to me. Many of my clients I am still friends with today!
4. What is your favorite part about working in the event industry?
It is really like a community because so many of us help each other out. I feel that at the end of the day, there are perfect clients for everyone.
5. What is one piece of advice you would give a client about florals?
I always work on a style and color palette. Mother Nature does what she wants and products change weekly. So my main goal is to get the colors and application of how the flowers are pulled together. That is what I find that draws people to an arrangement. Not particularly the flowers but the style. That is the one thing that potential clients should think about when they are choosing a designer for their wedding. Also, it should be fun! This is a special time in their life. They should feel that they like the vendors that they choose. You will be working with them for most likely a year and that should be an enjoyable experience!
6. Do you have any advice to offer clients who want to utilize your services at The Center?
Of course I do! I know that coming into The Center can be daunting. You can make that space anything that you want. But a lot of brides get overwhelmed with how to make it unique to them. Everyone wants their wedding to be different and not like everyone else’s. With full design we can help the client bring all of the elements together to make that space shine and be unique to them!
