#TBT Wedding MBA

Phew — We cannot believe wedding season is almost over! We have celebrated with so many amazing couples this past year and we are looking forward to even more 2014 weddings! We continue to grow with every first dance, cake cutting and garter toss we witness. As we work with couples to help make their days a stunning success, we take each event as a learning experience and discover new ways to improve. While weddings allow us to expand our knowledge, attending a few classes doesn’t hurt either.

This year we had the privilege of attending Wedding MBA in Las Vegas, Nevada to pick up some tips, tricks and pointers for our couples! Wedding Merchants Business Academy is America’s largest educational event dedicated to helping those in the wedding industry improve their business strategies and marketing plans.

The trip started off with us meeting Marty McFly and Doc Brown, aka Sonny Ganguly, Chief Marketing Officer, and Timothy Chi, Chief Executive Officer, of Wedding Wire. These two kicked off the week with a presentation on the advancement of technology. Taking us through the boom-box to the MP3 to the iPhone generations, we learned how technology has advanced our ways of getting in touch and communicating with our brides. In order to keep up in this fast paced industry, it’s our duty to stay on top of the ever-changing technology. Fun fact of the day: did you know 98% of text messages are read compared to 11% of emails? A few years ago, before the smart phone, this would have been unheard of but now in a time when text is more popular than talk, texting a bride to confirm an appointment is actually a smart approach. Thanks to these Wedding Wire professionals, who hosted a total of 5 sessions, we spent the next few days learning how to best communicate with our clients and how to create an effective marketing strategy.

Over the course of a week, we attended classes ranging from how to increase your social media exposure to what the latest 2014 wedding trends are. There were over 50 different presentations to choose from, each one demonstrating how to implement a new strategy to improve your business and make your brides happy. We even had the chance to listen to a presentation from Alan Berg, who is considered North American’s Leading Speaker and Expert on the Business of Weddings and Event, as he discussed the right way to deal with objections and how to increase your emotional intelligence.

Alan Berg wasn’t the only wedding pro making a pit stop at Wedding MBA, we also learned from Debi Lilly, who has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show as Oprah’s “Favorite Pro,” Tom Wright & Jon Holmes, the owners of the Lovesick boutique, and Stephanie & Jeff Padovani, the team behind the Book More Brides marketing resource. With 20+ more professionals making their way through the event, we were overloaded with knowledge that we’re sure to use going forward.

However, this trip wasn’t just about us, we learned some great things about you! That’s right; one of the most important take-aways from Wedding MBA was listen and focus on what YOU (the bride) wants! After all, you do play one of the most important parts of the day and your ideas and opinions are what matter most. We are here to make your big day a little easier to plan and we want to help turn your wedding ideas into actions.

We also learned some new advancements in technology, thanks to Marty McFly and Doc, that you can soon use to your wedding-day advantage. There is now a printer that actually prints 3D objects. While it might not be too common now, we can see this growing into be one of the hottest new entertainment to have at weddings. Imagine your guests being able to print a ring of you and your husband’s initials? Or print a cup for your guests’ favors. It’s weddings of the future! Though we aren’t sure when exactly 3D printers will make its wedding day debut, we are excited to see what is in store for The Center’s future weddings.

We cannot wait to attend Wedding MBA next year to learn even more valuable tips! In the meantime, The Center will continue to grow by learning from our best study guide, you!
